| 1801 M. Peterson & Søn Momme Peterson founded the business in 1801, when he opened a general store in Moss. The store grew into a flourishing merchants business, named M. Peterson & Søn. 1848 Shipping M. Peterson & Søn branched into shipping, and was one of Moss most prominent ship-owning companies by 1875. 1883 Moss Pulp Mill Momme Peterson’s grandson, Theodor Peterson, sold the fleet of ships and took over the site of Moss Ironworks. He founded Moss Pulp Mill, where the first digesting of pulp took place in 1883. The first two paper machines were purchased in 1898. 1900 Expansion Hans Blom Peterson was head of the firm from 1901 to 1954. He was a man of modern thinking and proactive marketing. He invested in a new recovery boiler and pulp digester, started manufacturing of paper sacks, built the new paper machine PM4 and a new sack factory. 1946 The first company in Norway to appoint a production committee M. Peterson & Søn was the first company in Norway to appoint a production committee with management and workers in 1946. The same year it started a company medical service, and kinder garden for the employees (still in service) was opened in 1947. 1950 Development of the Packaging Group Brothers Ralph and Erik Mollatt, sixth generation descendants of Momme Peterson, where the master builders in the work of building up a modern, wholly integrated packaging group. 1989 The Peterson Group Peterson consoled of ten individual companies. The same year a group model was introduced, with M. Peterson & Søn AS – a family owned and not listed on the stock exchange – as the parent company. 1992 Graphic consistency Introduction of the Elephant logo and Peterson name inn all companies. 1997 New organizational structure To create a organisation more market oriented and to take advantage of our total resources the new organizational structure consisting of four business areas was launched. 1998 Strengthening of our Nordic Position By acquiring the solid board operations of UPM Kymmene, establishing Peterson Packaging OY we strengthened our Nordic Position. 1999 Market Adaptation As consequence of competitors moves toward concentration and specialization we sold out the folding carton and cups operations. We also completed the investment program in Moss, giving 50.000 tons increase a year capacity for Kraftliner.
2001 Nordic Paper Organizations of the Scanproof unit into an independent greaseproof group under the name Nordic Paper, not longer a unit member of Peterson.
2006 New Owners An investor group
headed by industrialists Terje Haglund, Roar Paulsrud and AT Skog (Agder
-Telemark Forest Owners Association) bought all the shares and changed the
name of the company from M. Peterson & Søn AS to Peterson AS. |
